Book: Spencer Cohen, Book One

Rating: 5 stars
Synopsis
You just got dumped? You want your ex back? Or at least to see if making up is impossible so that you can move on with your life? Well, Spencer can help you there. His job is to act as your fake boyfriend and to hang out with you in front of your ex to make them jealous. Either the ex will realize they want you back or you’ll know once and for all that there’s no going back.
Andrew has broken up with his boyfriend and wants to employ Spencer in order to get his ex back. But something about this job is not quite what Spencer is used to. He’s enjoying Andrew’s company a bit too much and turns out he doesn’t necessarily want Andrew to get back together with his ex.
My thoughts
Even before starting this book, it already had one advantage: I LOVE the fake dating trope! It’s one of my absolute favorite tropes in the romance genre and it rarely disappoints.
Spencer and Andrew were both lovable and sincere characters, but if I didn’t know that this was only the first part of a series, I would’ve been quite disappointed because we didn’t really get to know their pasts that much. There was just so much more to explore about these two. Be that as it may, it was still wonderful to follow them getting to know each other and slowly realizing that there might be more to their fake relationship than either of them bargained for. It was especially satisfying to see how much emotional growth Spencer (and Andrew to some extent) gained in this book.
One thing that kinda annoyed me in the beginning was Andrew’s obliviousness to his own good qualities and attributes. I get that he was insecure especially after his ex didn’t really appreciate him as he deserved but there’s just something about self-deprecation that rubs me the wrong way when it is continuous.
The story itself was cute, fluffy and lighthearted and weirdly enough, it didn’t have any sex scenes at all. Which was surprising for an adult romance novel, but not really a bad thing. I’m sure there will be lots of steaminess later on in the series.

Book: Spencer Cohen, Book Two
Author: N.R. Walker
Publication: March 17th, 2016
Rating: 5 stars
Synopsis
Spencer and Andrew have decided to go from fake-boyfriends to real boyfriends and give their fledling relationship a go. Andrew is used to jumping right in and rushing his relationships while Spencer has never had a boyfriend, so the smart thing here is to take things slow. At least that’s what they decide, but the depth of their feelings surprise both of them and slow might not be possible here.
My thoughts
Spencer and Andrew are just so perfect for each other. It kinda started to grate on my nerves how freaking good they both are all the time. Thank god they had that one fight, so that we could see that they actually do have flaws. In this book we learn much more about Spencer’s past and Andrew’s family and their emotional growth is still quite wonderful to follow.
The subplot here deals with Spencer’s new case which ends up being quite different from his usual gigs. I enjoyed the element of mystery and detective-stuff here to balance out the cuteness overload that is Spencer’s and Andrew’s relationship.
Unlike the first book, this one had quite a bit of sexy times in it. One word: hot.
”And without my consent, with my defences in ruins, while my brain was sleeping, my stupid heart went and fell headfirst into love.”

Book: Spencer Cohen, Book Three
Author: N.R. Walker
Publication: April 21st, 2016
Rating: 4 stars
Synopsis
Spencer and Andrew are now in an established relationship and life couldn’t be better. Then Spencer gets a phone call from Australia from his estranged brother and he must decide if he’s willing to take a leap of faith and let his family back into his life after being cast out in his teens.
My thoughts
Soo..this wasn’t as good as the other two, but I don’t know if I can really pinpoint the reason why.
There wasn’t as much character development in this one as there was in the previous installments, although Spencer got some resolution to his family stuff, which allowed him to take some steps in his relationship with Andrew.
This was a cute read with a lot of closed door steaminess, which tbh didn’t bother me one bit. The second book had enough sex in it for all three books. ;D
Apart from the two major things happening in this book, the plot wasn’t anything special. And the epilogue was way too saccharine for me. But nonetheless it was still enjoyable to read about Spencer and Andrew and find out how their story ends.
