2020 Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag

Yes, I know that it’s already August, but what can I say? Better late than never, eh?

I’ve seen this freak out tag going on in Youtube and Instagram and decided that it would be fun to take part in it. First lets see some stats in the following pie charts.

Without the last two months (July & August) the charts would look a lot different, since I’ve been listening to more audiobooks and in general I’ve given way better ratings now. That’s what I get for actually putting some thought into what I’m reading these days.

All right, let’s get started with the questions.

1. Best books you’ve read so far in 2020
All Boys Aren’t Blue by George M. Johnson
Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz
Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston (reread)

2. Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2020
Truthfully I don’t think I’ve read that many sequels this year and those that I have, have not come close to TJ Klune’s Green Creek series.
Ravensong by TJ Klune
Heartsong by TJ Klune

3. New release you haven’t read yet, but want to
Do I have to choose? There are way too many..
The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune
A Song of Wraiths and Ruin by Roseanne A. Brown
This Is My America by Kim Johnson
Raybearer by Jordan Ifueko

4. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year
Let’s just continue with TJ, why don’t we.
Brothersong by TJ Klune

5. Biggest disappointment
I had heard so much hype about Alice Oseman’s newest book and while I was waiting for my order to arrive, I decided to read some books from her backlist. The first one was okay, but this one was just a huge disappointment.
Nick and Charlie by Alice Oseman

6. Biggest surprise
This surprised me, because I’m really not a fan of poetry but still the audiobook just blew me away.
Clap When You Land by Elizabeth Acevedo

7. Favorite new author (debut or new to you)
Can we just assume that these questions want multiple answers?
Emily Skrutskie
KJ Charles
Benjamin Alire Sáenz
Octavia E. Butler
Mark Oshiro
Akwaeke Emezi
George M. Johnson

8. Newest fictional crush
I don’t actually get fictional crushes. My heart has already been given to Fitz, Fool and Nighteyes from Robin Hobb’s books when I was ten years old and they just refuse to give it back.

9. Newest favorite character
Hmm..Geralt of Rivia from the Witcher-series by Andrzej Sapkowski. (and okay, I actually might have a crush on him..but only because in my head he looks like Henry Cavil)

10. Book that made you cry
This book is so heartachingly sad and the injustice in it just tore my soul apart.
Anger Is a Gift by Mark Oshiro

11. Book that made you happy
Well, these are graphic novels, but they count, right? Almost all the other books have made me either sad or angry..
Heartstopper series by Alice Oseman

12. Most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year (or received)
My copy of this has beautiful blue foiling on the dragon’s scales.
Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon

13.What books do you need to read by the end of the year?
Well I don’t really need to read anything, since I don’t have review copies or anything. But my mission is to read all of Robin Hobb’s Realm of the Elderlings -books, so that I can finally read the last one in the series. I’d also love to finish the Witcher series.

14. Favorite book community member
I mostly follow Youtubers, so here are my favorites from there
Ashley from Bookish Realm
Justine from I Should Read That
Bethany from Beautifully Bookish Bethany
Daniel from Daniel Greene
